Gremlins in Clay: A 3D Head Modelling Workshop with Dr Ruth Park

Any levil welcome- no experience needed, ideal age range is  12-17 years

Unleash your wild imagination and sculpt your very own mischievous clay creature in this one-day fantasy head-modelling workshop, guided by artist and educator Dr Ruth Park.

In this hands-on workshop, students will learn how to construct a three-dimensional clay bust using coil-building and hand-modelling techniques. Inspired by the quirky, magical characters found in Brian Froud's Book of Fairies, participants will explore how facial features—like droopy eyes, squished noses, floppy ears, wild hair and expressive mouths—can be exaggerated to bring personality and playfulness to life.

Workshop activities include:

• Drawing exercises to explore facial expressions and the placement of features
• Clay modelling of individual features like eyes, noses, mouths and ears
• Coil-building and assembling an armature for the head form
• Attaching and refining sculpted features to create a complete gremlin bust
• Surface discussion and prep for bisque firing

Everything included: Tuition, bisque firing, clay, tools for decoration and everything needed to bring your creature to life.

No prior clay experience needed—just a sense of curiosity, creativity, and a love for weird and wonderful things!
