Wheel Thrown Teapots, Jugs & Lidded Jars
Whether you’re continuing from a previous course or joining us for the first time, this course offers the chance to extend your technical skills while creating functional and beautiful vessels to enjoy in everyday life. It is appropriate for all levels, including complete beginners.
This 8-week course dives into the artistry of vessel-making on the wheel, with a special focus on lidded forms, spouts, and handles. Perfect for students who have completed a beginners course or who already feel comfortable centering and throwing, this course will build confidence in tackling more complex forms.
Working step by step, students will explore the design and function of vessels such as jugs, teapots, and lidded containers. You’ll learn how to refine your throwing technique, add thoughtful details, and combine multiple elements into harmonious, functional pieces. By the end of the course, you’ll complete a series of refined works that expand your skills and deepen your understanding of form, function, and decoration.
Over the 8 weeks, you will:
-
Practice shaping refined vessel forms beyond the cylinder and bowl
-
Learn to throw, trim, and fit lids with precision
-
Master the art of pulling and attaching handles for balance and comfort
-
Throw and shape spouts for pouring vessels and teapots
-
Assemble multi-part forms (teapots, jugs, lidded jars)
-
Explore surface decoration and glazing to enhance your finished works
-
Engage in guided feedback and reflection to support your artistic development
