1. IDENTIFICATION

Product Use: Decorative and functional ceramic glaze. For professional and hobby pottery applications.

2. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

Classification:

  • Not classified as hazardous under GHS for normal consumer use. If fired correctly following manufacturers instructions. 

  • Non-toxic in raw form according to ASTM D-4236.

  • Contains respirable dust if glaze is allowed to dry, avoid inhalation of powder.

Hazard Statements:

  • May cause irritation to eyes, skin, or respiratory system.

  • Avoid generating dust.

  • Not intended for ingestion.

Precautionary Statements for Dry Glazes:

  • Wear appropriate protective equipment (PPE) such as a dust mask, gloves, and eye protection when handling dry powders. Not needed for liquid glazes.

  • Use in a well-ventilated area.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

  • Inhalation: Move to fresh air. Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

  • Skin Contact: Wash with soap and water.

  • Eye Contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Seek medical attention if irritation continues.

  • Ingestion: Rinse mouth. Seek medical advice if feeling unwell.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

  • Non-flammable.

  • Use standard firefighting methods suitable for surrounding materials.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

  • Avoid creating dust.

  • Sweep up carefully and dispose of waste in accordance with local regulations.

  • Wear protective equipment to prevent dust inhalation.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

  • Store in sealed containers in a dry, cool place.

  • Avoid inhaling dust.

  • Wash hands thoroughly after handling.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION

Respiratory Protection:

  • Use NIOSH-approved dust mask or P2 respirator when handling powders.

Skin Protection:

  • Wear gloves if skin is sensitive.

Ingredient-Specific Food Safety Observations on Oxides 

*Percentage amounts found in our glazes.


  • Cobalt Oxide (up to 2%):
    Acceptable in small amounts. Cobalt can leach slightly in some matte glazes but is generally considered food-safe under Australian and US standards when properly formulated.

  • Copper Carbonate (up to 2%):
    Copper is a known leaching risk in matte glazes, especially at higher percentages.

  • Chrome Oxide (0.5%):
    Acceptable in small amounts. Chrome is only a concern in higher doses or unstable glazes.

  • Manganese Dioxide (up to 1%):
    Manganese has strict inhalation safety concerns (raw handling) and can leach in glazes in high amounts.

  • Red Iron Oxide (up to 8%):
    Food-safe when fired.

  • Encapsulated Inclusion Stains (up to 8%):
    Food - safe when fired.

  • Titanium Dioxide, Rutile, Zircon, Tin Oxide:
    All considered stable, food-safe, and non-toxic when fired.
