Ingredient-Specific Food Safety Observations on Oxides

Cobalt Oxide (up to 2%):
Acceptable in small amounts. Cobalt can leach slightly in some matte glazes but is generally considered food-safe under Australian and US standards when properly formulated. -
Copper Carbonate (up to 2%):
Copper is a known leaching risk in matte glazes, especially at higher percentages. -
Chrome Oxide (0.5%):
Acceptable in small amounts. Chrome is only a concern in higher doses or unstable glazes. -
Manganese Dioxide (up to 1%):
Manganese has strict inhalation safety concerns (raw handling) and can leach in glazes in high amounts. -
Red Iron Oxide (up to 8%):
Food-safe when fired. -
Encapsulated Inclusion Stains (up to 8%):
